Gozo Area Information

Xlendi

Xlendi Malta Bay Gozo is located at the bottom of a very steep valley beginning in the village of Kercem, which is very near to the capital city of Victoria (Rabat). During the descent to the Bay, one can appreciate the greenery all around, and the deeper one descends into the valley, the more cane growing in the valley, depending on the time of year, arriving at the car park soon after. Xlendi Bay Gozo is a beach town on the island's southwest coast. This attractive location is frequented by both visitors and Maltese, not to mention the residents themselves.

Although the beach is modest, it is one of the greatest on the island. The Bay used to be a tranquil fishing community due to its geological formation and the shallow sloping pebbly beach, and few fisherman still preserve a few of the old boat homes. It is also popular as a summer residence, with many locals staying in their boathouse due to the calm setting. Xlendi Malta is now more of a resort district, with most of the properties converted into restaurants, bars, shops, guest rooms, and hotels.

Although modest, the promenade is very attractive, especially in the summer when it is lined with tables near the shoreline where one can enjoy a quiet dinner close to the water's edge. Despite the fact that the neighborhood has increased in size due to business and residential constructions, it has retained its natural peacefulness.

When you arrive, you will note that the old traditional colored fishing boats are still docked in the bay beside the contemporary pleasure boats, symbolizing what this location is now - a combination of old and new harmoniously coexisting. Swimming is also popular in the bay. There is a boardwalk along the left side of the bay with stone benches set upon rocks where people can drop their luggage and plunge into the sea for a pleasant dip. A buoy line surrounding a lengthy stretch of coast in this location signifies a swimmers zone while also protecting swimmers from the vessels that move about in the bay. There are various ladders to let swimmers exit the lake.

Xlendi Malta Bay is also popular with nighttime visitors who come to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the promenade in the balmy summer nights, with many stopping for a peaceful lunch at one of the local restaurants perched on the water's edge. It is also popular with families who bring their children for ice cream at a popular parlor that creates homemade ice cream. This bay is excellent all year round since spring and autumn are also lovely times to visit this lovely unique spot. This site also has fantastic walks along the coast in several directions on rugged terrain, including an intriguing trip to the guard tower at the inlet us mouth.
