Kercem
Located to the southwest of Victoria, Ta' Kercem is framed by the valley of Lunzjata and the cliffs of Xlendi. Its neighboring countries are Fontana, Gharb, Ghasri, Munxar, Saint Lawrence, and Victoria, the nation's capital. Kercem was inhabited as early as the Ghar Dalam period, as evidenced by archaeological finds (5000–4500 B.C.).
Evidence of a long-term settlement includes a Phoenician house, a Punic sanctuary, Roman baths, and a Christian cemetery from the third century. Unfortunately, many of these discoveries are no longer accessible because they have been buried or destroyed. In the late Middle Ages, a church dedicated to Pope Gregory the Great became the focal point of the growing town of Ta' Kercem. The significance of this chapel dates back to 1581, when a procession began making its way from Victoria's Matrix Church to it on the Saint's feast in March. Kercem, dedicated to Pope St. Gregory and Our Lady of Succors, was built in 1851 and elevated to the status of parish in 1885. In 1910, as the city's population grew, so did the need for more worship space.
Kercem's Santa Lucija has a quaint church square. Santa Lucija is a little village with old houses and a chapel dedicated to St. Lucy.
